The following definitions apply throughout this chapter:

A. “Automated traffic safety camera” means a device that uses a vehicle sensor installed to work in conjunction with an intersection traffic control system, or a speed measuring device, and a camera synchronized to automatically record one or more sequenced photographs, microphotographs, or electronic images of the rear of a motor vehicle at the time the vehicle fails to stop when facing a steady red traffic control signal or exceeds a speed limit in a school speed zone as detected by a speed measuring device.

B. “City” means the city of Bothell, Washington.

C. “Police chief” means the chief of the Bothell police department.

D. “School speed zone” means a school or playground speed zone established by, or under, RCW 46.61.440.

E. “School speed zone violation” means a violation of RCW 46.61.440.

F. “Stoplight” means an intersection of two or more arterials with traffic control signals that have yellow change interval durations in accordance with RCW 47.36.022.

G. “Stoplight violation” means a violation of RCW 46.61.050. (Ord. 2371 § 1 (Att. A), 2021).
